This is just as the High Court of Justice in Makurdi, led by Justice A.O. Unum, had issued an order restraining the conduct of the party’s governorship primaries in the state.
A governorship aspirant of the party, Prof Steven Ugba had filed a motion of ex parte seeking an interim order to stop the state chairman of APC, Comrade Abba Yaro and the party itself, from conducting the governorship primaries. There is also a motion on notice to keep matters on status-quo pending the outcome of the suit.
Ugba was excluded as a governorship contender of the opposition party to be nominated as flag bearer of the party in the state. The party claimed that the governorship ticket is not zoned to Benue North East senatorial district where Ugba is from.
However, the APC primaries began yesterday with accreditation of delegates at the state secretariat of the party. The delegates later moved to IBB square, venue of the governorship primaries.
reports have it that voting commenced at about 6.30am and lasted for several hours before the electoral officials announced the suspension of the polls. It was also gathered that the stoppage of the exercise was propelled to stall the emergence of Emmanuel Jime who was leading in the contest.
