Mark’D ball competition has no political affiliation- Mark

Former Senate president and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the Benue South senatorial rerun, Senator David Mark, has said the ongoing 2015 Mark’D ball competition has no political motive hence it has been a tradition to unite his people by bringing them home at the end of every year.

Senator Mark stated this during the official kick off of this year’s Mark’D ball competition yesterday.

Declaring the event open, the Senator said the competition which started 6years ago has improved over the years, and has empowered many Nigerians across party lines, tribe and religious affiliation.

He stated clearly that the event is not political, saying since sports is a unifying tool that brings young people together by taking them off the streets to engage them positively, he will always complement on the achievements and successes the event has always recorded.

While charging the youth to explore their talents, the Senator said his Foundation will continue to sponsor the competition in years to come, thereby projecting discovered talents to the outside world.

Also speaking, the former minister of interior, Comrade Abba Moro, in his goodwill message said the Idoma people have been kept together by a single element, Senator David Mark. According to him, Senator Mark has through his untiring efforts, facilitated unity and development among the Idoma people and as such continuity is paramount.

He said as an umbrella that has provided the needed shelter for his people, the Idoma people must always rally round Mark to sustain the hope he has given them.

Highlights of the opening ceremony was an exhibition match between Mark Mentors (team 1&2), as well as the presentation of NBA trophy which Mark Mentors won for the 2014/2015 league season to their sponsor, Senator David Mark.

There were performances by veteran Bonkos Ikwe, Tekno, Danfo Driver, Baba Fryo, Jumabee, Mark Owi, and a host of others, with Klint D drunk and Pastor Nikodemus also on hand to crack the the ribs of the massive crowed that turned out.

The Grand Finale of the week long event will come up on 31st December, 2015 in Otukpo.
