On hearing the news that the event will no longer go on as planned, after committing their time, energy and money towards the success of the event without the usual entitlements from the government, the angry Benue youths took to the streets of Makurdi in the early hours of Tuesday, December 29, 2015, to express their grievances and dissatisfaction with the Ortom led administration.

Speaking with our correspondent who monitored the protest, some of the protesters who pleaded for anonymity said, the government of the day believes in propaganda and deceit at the detriment of the poor people of the state.

And while the government is saying the directive to cancel the event for this year came from Mzough U Tiv, the umbrella body governing the affairs of the the Tiv people to mourn the Tor Tiv, our sources insisted that the governor’s daughter might have connived with highly placed politicians in his father’s led administration to swindle the money.

They therefore, called on the governor to give account of the N200 million he gave to the daughter to organize this year’s event now that the event has been called off without a convincing reason.

While some of the angry youths have decided to return home dejected, majority have voiced their intentions to head to otukpo for the annual Mark’D ball competition, to end their year in style.

It could be recalled that the annual Mark’D ball competition for year 2015 kicked off last week Saturday. This event is the brainchild of the former Senate president, to bring his people together as a united entity and has created an avenue for them to show case their talents to the outside world.

For the past few days, Otukpo, the headquarters of Idoma land, has witnessed a number of activities ranging from the Agila carnival, musical concerts, basket ball competition, Miss Idoma as well as Face of Idoma contests. All these are directly or indirectly supported by Senator David Mark.

The question now is, who wouldn’t want Senator Mark as his representative, knowing he is always handy to put smiles on the faces of his constituents?
